Sober Apartment Living

The transition from a treatment facility to the real world can be difficult as a person tries to hold onto their newly learned coping skills and habits. St. Gregory staff and counselors will often recommend sober apartment living which is designed to provide a more seamless transition to the real world for 3 to4 months after completing a program. Working through daily pressures and stress, each resident can return home daily to a supportive group of “like minded” people who understand the difficulty of maintaining sobriety.

The sober apartment living St. Gregory Retreat Centers recommends is a transitional housing option for graduates of St Gregory Recovery Program or people who have already completed an inpatient drug and alcohol rehab program.  This option exists soley from referrals from the St. Gregory Retreat Center which allows a smooth working relationship to coordinate reservations and deposits.

Sober apartment living is a structured residence providing support within it's walls to and for the residents, with the same common goal; staying sober from drugs and alcohol while transitioning back to normal life.

The sober apartments are exclusively for men recovering from dependency, all of whom have similar goals of maintaining sobriety. This will provide each resident with the support of like-minded people making recovery more of a group effort than individual.

Residents are required to submit to regular drug testing and rooms are commonly checked for drugs, paraphernalia, and alcohol.  These zero tolerance procedures are an extra effort to ensure substance abuse relapse does not occur among the residents, maintaining the safety of everyone in the home.

Residents of sober apartment living are required to obtain a job / volunteer and/or return to school for continued education (within 2 weeks of beginning). This requirement ensures that all residents have constructive activities with which they can occupy their time. By working and/or attending classes to further education, residents can begin on the right path immediately to improve their lives and remain substance free.

Weekday curfew is 11:00PM, shortly after the curfew; there is a roll call to ensure that every resident is home and substance free for the day.

The privilege of returning home for the weekend may be extended to residents on Friday evening, through Sunday afternoon. This allows eligible residents to return home to visit loved ones. This privilege is not extended to all residents and a decision is made based on many different factors including the residents relapse history, the home situation and possible hazardous people and substances.
