Detox Services for St. Gregory Drug Abuse Rehab Facility
Often when addressing addiction to alcohol, heroin, or prescription drugs, the first problem is dealing with the likelihood of withdrawal. As the effects of drugs and alcohol wear off and your body, mind and spirit not only deal with the absence of the intoxication, but also with the physical, neurochemical, and bodily dysfunction; an individual may incur extreme discomfort and sometimes physical risk.
The St. Gregory Retreat Center is licensed to administer medical detoxification services and we take great care in assisting our clients through this process. A smooth, comfortable detox is necessary to ensure a seamless transition into the St Gregory Life Process Model©. Clients undergoing detox at St. Gregory's are able to avoid the discomfort of a hospital environment and have the luxury of a nice bed, good food, and staff and other guests to talk to for support along with the care of our interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and other medical detox staff. The detox period at the St. Gregory Retreat Center is designed with one goal in mind.help our guests to safely and comfortably as possible break the daily chemical dependency they have so they are physically prepared to begin working on the rest of their lives in the Life Process Model©.
Alcohol, benzodiazepines, and opioids have the highest risk of withdrawal problems leading to recurrent use and failure in following through with the treatment of the primary problem, the substance use. Although the symptoms can be similar, the risk for withdrawal is intensified when combinations of these agents are used. Alcohol and sedative hypnotics (benzodiazepines and others) can result in delirium tremens (more commonly referred to as "DT's") with risk of death.
Benzodiazepine detox from drugs such as Xanax, Valium, and Klonopin can produce (see list of Benzodiazepines below) withdrawal symptoms including delirium tremens, excessive sweating, vomiting, insomnia, loss of appetite and weight loss, anxiety and depression. Delirium tremens (DT's) is manifested by agitation and restlessness, confusion, hallucinations, delusions, and seizures.
Opioid detox from drugs such as Heroin, Methadone, and Oxycodone (see list of opioids below) can result in physical pain of muscles/bones/joints, crampy abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea in addition to yawning, sweating, lacrimation, rhinorrhea, anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, dilated pupils, piloerection, chills, tachycardia, and hypertension.
Through our medical resources, medically monitored detoxification can be provided at the quiet, calm setting of St. Gregory's. Utilizing scientific based medical interventions (including Suboxone), withdrawal risk will be averted and our clients are optimally prepared to begin the Life Process Model©
